Original stereocard with two black-and-white stereoscopic photographs mounted on beige board. Includes printed text in black ink on front and back. Stereocard: 7" x 3 1/2." Each photo: 3" x 3 1/4." Stereocard is clean and intact overall but has darkening on front and back, several light smudges, faint dampstaining on back, and slight wear to edges and corners. A Good copy. An original stereocard featuring a view of a quaint and rustic general store in the town of Killorglin, County Kerry, Ireland. A few people stand at the front of the store. There are two men sitting on a cart drawn by a donkey. Two girls stand close to the storefront behind the donkey. Part of the surrounding natural landscape can be seen in the background. Photo likely taken any time from the late nineteenth century to the date of publication, 1901. The title is printed in six different languages on back. Title and "Copyright 1901 by Underwood & Underwood" printed in bottom margin on front. The following is printed in the left margin on front: "Underwood & Underwood Publishers. New York, London, Toronto-Canada, Ottawa-Kansas." The following is printed in right margin on front: "Works and Studios; Arlington, N.J., Littleton, N.H., Washington, D.C.; Sun Sculpture Trade Mark." Underwood & Underwood was an American company that produced and distributed stereoscopic views and other photographic items. It later became a pioneer in news bureau photography. The company was founded by brothers Elmer Underwood (1859-1947) and Bert Underwood (1862-1943) in 1881. At one time, Underwood & Underwood published the most stereoviews of any company in the world. By 1910, Underwood & Underwood had ventured into news photography. In 1920, the company ceased production of stereoviews and sold its stereographic stock to the Keystone View Company. Underwood & Underwood became defunct in the 1940s.. Photographic Image. Book Condition: Collectible-Good. Binding: No Binding
